Ecclesiastes 10:19 (NASB)Dear Neighbor,
Men prepare a meal for enjoyment, and wine makes life merry, and money is the answer to everything.
According to the preacher in Ecclesiastes, money is the answer to everything, for with it a feast can be had for enjoyment. There is enjoyment in a feast but I feast alone is not enjoyable, so money is not the answer to everything. So what did the preacher mean by everything? Money can buy anything except happiness and can buy a ticket to anywhere but to heaven. What do I lament about the most? Would having the riches of Solomon be the answers to all of my problems? My wife and I recently enjoyed a trip to the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii. Money bought us the ticket for the airplane, the rental car, the hotel room and the food that we ate during the week of our stay. The trip was enjoyable but it is nothing compared to heaven. No amount of money on earth can buy us heaven. We have Christian joy because heaven has been given to us as a gift, by the grace of God, through the redemption which is in Jesus the Christ. Therefore, we have Christian joy because we know that our salvation is certain, that we have a place in the Father’s house with Jesus Christ and all who follow him. However, no amount of money can buy us what we desire while on the earth. The desire of our hearts is for the salvation of our children, there repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and no amount of money can purchase what we desire most.
