Genesis 15:6 (NASB)
Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
Abraham was childless but the Lord God promised him an heir from his own body. The Lord God promised Abraham that He would make his descendants as numerous as the stars above the earth. It was then that Abraham believe the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
The Apostle Paul refers to this in Romans 4:3, 20-22 and Galatians 3:6. James refers to this in James 2:23. It is by faith and faith alone that the Lord reckons it to us as righteousness in his sight.
The Lord Jesus Christ has promised eternal life in the new heaven and the new earth to all who believe in Him and He reckons it to us as righteousness. It is not by works but through faith in Christ Jesus alone that we are justified in the sight of the Lord our God.
